Sea Otter Awareness Exhibit
Officially entitled "The Sea Otter Project Funded by the Luckenbach Trustee Council"
The stated goal is to "Promote recovery of the southern sea otter by providing public education and information on factors inhibiting the recovery of the southern sea otter, including but not limited to, health and pollution issues."
One way this will be accomplished is through an informational kiosk at the Seymour Marine Discovery Center in Santa Cruz, CA.
Some brainstorming on making this an effective exhibit:
- Use new media (lcd screens, projection, buttons) to engage the visitor
- Use sound to engage the visitor
- Keep the information fresh: whiteboard updated weekly by Seymour Center staff of sea otter mortality counts and/or overlay mortality locations on map of CA coast
- Have live informaton: live camera feed from elkhorn slough.
- Easy, modular display update for printed material: have ability for staff at the MWVCRC to update the kiosk with fliers, photos, dispatches.
3/12/09 Still in the planning stage. Will start in earnest in June 2009.
