Make your own Ethernet cable

Step one: Strip the outer insulation away from the Ethernet cable:

About 1 and a quarter inches away from the end of the cable, gently start to cut into the insulation with the wire strippers. You want to be able to pull the insulation off the cable, but you also want to avoid nicking the wires on the inside of the insulation.

Step two: Once you’ve pulled off the outer insulation, you’ll want to untwist the inner wire pairs and straighten the wires out.

Step three: You now want to put the wires into the right order. The right order is:

Orange-white, orange, green-white, blue, blue-white, green, brown-white, brown.

Step four: Cut the wires cleanly across about an inch above the outer insulation.

Step five: Guide the wires into the plastic connector. Make sure the part of the plastic connector that sticks out is facing down, towards the floor.

Step six: Crimp the connector with the crimping tool.
